General Information of the M/V Greg Mortimer

Ulstein X-BOW®

Used on more than 100 vessels in commercial shipments, the aerodynamic Ulstein X-BOW® cuts through swell so you feel less vibration and disturbance, and transits faster through waves. This, in combination with Rolls Royce dynamic stabilizers, offers unmatched stability and comfort on ocean crossings. It also helps reduce our fuel consumption by up to 60%.

Hydraulic display platforms

While you will undoubtedly love the aesthetics of the Greg Mortimer, we are all here to admire the spectacular scenery and observe the fabulous wildlife in its natural habitat. To ensure you get the best possible views, the new ship features unique viewing platforms, customized for the Greg Mortimer. Accessed from deck 5, the two platforms hydraulically fold for unobstructed views of marine life and seabirds.

Zodiac boat launch pad

Zodiac boats are a vital part of getting closer to your adventure in a personal way, as they sneak into areas Greg Mortimer cannot reach. On this new ship, there are specially designed launch pads that allow us to load Zodiacs easily and quickly, allowing you to spend more time exploring on the two or three daily landings. There are 15 zodiac boats that are boarded on both sides of Deck 3 (sea level).

Custom activity platform

Regardless of your destination, we offer a number of additional activities to allow you to see more of the environment. From kayaking and scuba diving to rock climbing and backcountry skiing, it's these optional activities that often leave the biggest impression on your overall trip. Aboard the Greg Mortimer, there is a spacious activity prep and loading platform for these activities and more, designed in consultation with our expert activity guides.

Environmental Protection

We believe that preserving and protecting the environment is of the utmost importance and this is reflected in several characteristics of Greg Mortimer. The Greg Mortimer boasts one of the least polluting marine engines in the world due to low power consumption, high fuel efficiency and a design optimized to deliver an 80% reduction in emissions. The ship can also use the virtual anchor to maintain its position using a combination of GPS, steering technology, propellers and thrusters. This protects the seabed and minimizes the damage caused by conventional anchors.

M/V Greg Mortimer amenities

State-of-the-art facilities

On all expeditions, you will meet local naturalists and specialists, who offer presentations on their area of expertise to deepen your understanding of the region you are visiting. Join the team in the conference room for presentations that span topics as broad as history and culture, biology and climate change, but they have one thing in common: they all aim to participate, educate and entertain. If you just want to look around and keep an eye out for wildlife, you have access to two bars / lounges where impressive floor-to-ceiling windows offer a special perspective of the landscape. Does it hurt a little after walking all day? Treat yourself to a massage in the wellness center and feel the pains disappear! Enthusiastic photographers and artists will delight in the media room on Deck 7.

Library

The Greg Mortimer is also equipped with other facilities for your enjoyment. There is a library on deck 7 with books and maps. With floor-to-ceiling windows, the library is a quiet sanctuary where you can find non-fiction books to read about the day's destinations, organize your photos, or play board games with new friends. Choose from our range of informative non-fiction titles, wildlife guides, travel diaries, novels, and a selection of children's books and board games. Wildlife guides, books, and binoculars can also be found in the observation room on deck 7.

Mudroom

You don't need to bring your wet expedition gear into your cabin to dry. Keep your cabin warm and cozy by leaving your outer jackets and pants on the fender. The mudroom is your launch pad for all excursions and activities on land. Here, you will have access to a locker when you can hang your gear to dry and store your boots between excursions.

Spa, sauna y gym

The Greg Mortimer offers a wellness center complete with gym, sauna and spa equipment. We invite you to visit the wellness center during your trip, where you can use the gym, visit our sauna (which we recommend after the polar dive) or book a massage (additional cost applies). There are also two hot tubs on the upper outside deck with stunning views of the outside world.

Food

One of the most important parts of any expedition is the food! Whatever adventures your day throws at you, you'll feel fueled by hearty meals and delicious morning / afternoon teas cooked by our onboard chefs. Meals are served in a large restaurant with family-style meals, perfect for exchanging stories with your new expedition family. Furthermore, a private dining room will also be available upon request. Meals are a great time to enjoy expedition camaraderie in our open-seating dining area. Share stories with your fellow travelers and ask questions of our expedition team that may have come up during the day. Tea, coffee and sandwiches are available 24 hours a day, and our chefs offer different menu options and courses for each meal. Enjoy the variety of house wine, beers, and soft drinks included with dinner after a long day in nature. We also invite you to join your captain and expedition team for the captain's informal welcome and farewell drinks, with complimentary drinks and cocktail appetizers, followed by a 3-course meal.

Bars and lounges

Gathering areas have always played an important role in fostering warm camaraderie aboard our ships. They are the heart of the expedition, where people come together to share stories of the day, exchange photos, keep an eye out for wildlife, and watch the sunset. The bars and lounges on board are refined but welcoming places to gather, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering breathtaking views and, of course, friendly waiters.
